The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a warrant of arrest for Justice Adolphus Enebeli, the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), after he failed to appear before lawmakers. The lawmakers had invited Enebeli to answer questions regarding the annulled October 2024 local government elections, but he didn’t show up, despite a 72-hour ultimatum.Instead, Enebeli and his commissioners took legal action by filing a suit at the State High Court, challenging the Assembly’s resolutions. This development comes after the Supreme Court nullified the local council elections conducted by RSIEC, which Enebeli oversaw.Interestingly, three RSIEC commissioners have resigned in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling, citing the judgment as their reason for leaving. The situation is unfolding in a state where political tentions has been high, with public officers largely divided between supporting Nyesom Wike or Governor Sim Fubara.
