The Kano chapter of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has welcomed former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai and retired Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, calling their defection a major boost.
SDP Chairman Alhaji Ali Shettima said their entry would strengthen the party ahead of elections. “El-Rufai and Al-Mustapha bring credibility and structure,” he stated.
Shettima dismissed claims that SDP was weakened by the defection of its 2023 governorship candidate, Bala Gwagwarwa, to APC. “Our leadership remains intact,” he said.
The move signals SDP’s growing influence as it seeks to challenge the dominance of APC and PDP in future elections.
