Senate dismisses $10 million bribery allegation over NERC chairmanship screening

The Senate has dismissed allegations that its members received a $10 million bribe to confirm a nominee for the chairmanship of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, described the claims circulating on social media as “baseless, mischievous, and a deliberate attempt to malign the integrity of the National Assembly.”

He maintained that the screening process for the nominee followed due legislative procedure and that all decisions were made transparently.

The Senate spokesman urged Nigerians to disregard the rumours and warned against the spread of falsehoods capable of undermining public trust in democratic institutions.

Adaramodu stated that the Senate remains committed to accountability and due diligence in all oversight responsibilities.
