The Nigerian Senate has marked the mid-point of its four-year tenure with a review of its legislative performance, spotlighting a total of 983 bills introduced since June 2023, out of which 108 have been passed into law.
In a statement released in Abuja, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele highlighted the chamber’s achievements, including the Student Loan Act, the National Minimum Wage Amendment Act, and the recently passed Tax Reform Bills. He said these laws reflect the 10th Assembly’s commitment to fiscal restructuring, educational access, and economic revival.
Bamidele also touted a 232% increase in passed legislation year-on-year, noting that executive bills received higher attention in the second legislative year, with 26 passed compared to 13 the previous year. He said ongoing efforts will focus on electoral reform, constitutional review, and judicial restructuring to improve governance and restore public trust in democracy.
With over 1 million applications to the student loan program and growing investor confidence in the reformed tax system, the Senate believes its legislative interventions are yielding results. Bamidele assured that the second half of the 10th Assembly will be marked by deeper constitutional engagement and national impact.
