Sir Dr. Lucky Eseigbe has officially assumed office as the Edo State Commissioner for Physical Planning, Urban and Regional Development, pledging to prioritize the state’s urban renewal policy and promote orderly development through proactive planning and inter-agency cooperation.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at the ministry headquarters in Benin City, Eseigbe expressed gratitude to Governor Godwin Obaseki for the confidence reposed in him. He assured that his leadership will focus on improving physical infrastructure, enforcing building codes, and promoting modern housing and environmental sustainability across Edo’s urban centers.
The new commissioner emphasized that his team would implement innovative planning strategies that respond to the challenges of population growth and climate change while ensuring that urban development remains inclusive and environmentally responsible. “Our goal is to create communities that are livable, resilient, and well-structured for future generations. We will strengthen partnerships with private developers, professional bodies, and residents to achieve this,” he stated.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Osarobo Edorodion, while welcoming the commissioner, pledged full cooperation and highlighted the ministry’s ongoing projects, including the Edo Urban Renewal Masterplan and the enforcement of development control policies.
