Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has made a surprising decision to withdraw Barcelona star Lamine Yamal from the latest national squad ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Georgia and Turkey. Yamal had been expected to join La Roja after helping Barcelona to a 4-2 victory over Celta Vigo, but a medical issue has forced his removal.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) revealed that Yamal underwent an invasive radiofrequency procedure on the morning of November 10 to treat pubic discomfort—a move that was not communicated to the national team’s medical staff. Following the procedure, doctors recommended 7-10 days of rest, prompting the federation to prioritize the player’s health and release him from the squad.
The RFEF expressed surprise and concern over the lack of prior notice but emphasized their commitment to Yamal’s safety and well-being. The federation also wished the 17-year-old prodigy a swift recovery, underlining confidence that he will return to action soon. This unexpected withdrawal leaves a gap in Spain’s attacking options as they prepare for crucial World Cup qualifying matches.
