SSANU, NASU PROTEST IN ABUJA OVER UNFULFILLED PROMISES

On October 7, 2025, members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) staged a demonstration in Abuja, pressing the Federal Government to honor promised welfare packages, salary adjustments, and implementation of prior agreements.

The protest took place in front of the Federal Secretariat and drew participation from university staff across multiple states. Placards bore messages such as “Pay Our Arrears” and “Stop Exploiting Staff.” Leaders delivered speeches calling out delayed fulfillment and broken promises by government agencies.

Despite government intervention offers, the unions insisted that their patience has been exhausted and threatened escalation to full strike unless action is immediate. National leadership warned that the protest may disrupt functions in some universities.
