SUSWAM ACCUSES PDP ACTING CHAIR DAMAGUM OF LEADERSHIP FAILURE AND CONSTITUTIONAL VIOLATION

Internal strife within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened following a blistering critique by former Benue State Governor Senator Gabriel Suswam, who publicly condemned Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum for alleged incompetence and unconstitutional behavior.
Speaking on the issue, Suswam aligned with recent criticisms from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, asserting that the party’s leadership lacks integrity and transparency. He accused Damagum of making critical decisions unilaterally, including the controversial reinstatement of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary—without consultation with the National Working Committee (NWC).
Suswam also raised constitutional concerns regarding Damagum’s extended tenure, insisting that the chairmanship should have reverted to the North Central per party zoning arrangements. “He breached the constitution,” Suswam declared, warning that the party risks self-destruction if internal governance is not restored.
The drama follows Damagum’s attempt to cancel the party’s 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for June 30. Members of the NWC have since dissociated themselves from the move, asserting that only the NEC holds the authority to cancel its resolutions.
