President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has credited former military President
with shaping his political journey, stating that without Babangida’s influence, he might never have ventured into politics.
Speaking at the launch of Babangida’s autobiography, A Journey in Service, in Abuja, Tinubu praised the former leader’s role in nurturing young politicians, recalling how Babangida encouraged bright minds to participate in governance.
The president acknowledged Babangida’s economic policies, particularly his decision to license new-generation banks, which transformed Nigeria’s financial landscape. He also shared a personal encounter during the transition to civilian rule, revealing that he once confronted Babangida over the repeated delays in inaugurating elected officials.
Tinubu expressed deep gratitude for Babangida’s contributions to Nigeria’s political and economic evolution, describing him as a courageous leader who made bold decisions for national progress. He assured Nigerians that he would uphold that same legacy of decisive leadership, promising to take tough but necessary actions for the country’s benefit.
