TINUBU FLAGS OFF EBONYI SECTION OF TRANS-SAHARAN SUPER HIGHWAY
President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the 118.85km Ebonyi State segment of the Trans-Saharan Super Highway, a major infrastructure project intended to link several key regions of Nigeria. The President, represented by Governor Francis Nwifuru at the event in Amuro-Mgbom, Afikpo North, said the road marks the beginning of a new chapter of connectivity and economic growth, particularly for landlocked states like Ebonyi.
The road starts at Ndibe Beach in Afikpo North and stretches through several local government areas, heading into Benue and eventually connecting to Abuja through Kogi and Nasarawa. The corridor will also extend into Cross River, ending in Calabar. Governor Nwifuru described the project as a “game-changer” that will enhance regional trade, improve access to education, and provide thousands of jobs.
Minister of Works David Umahi received praise for his leadership on the project, which is expected to boost Ebonyi’s agriculture and mining sectors and reverse decades of infrastructural neglect in the Southeast. Tinubu promised that his administration remains committed to ensuring that Nigeria’s highway networks promote national integration and economic inclusion.
