TINUBU GOVERNMENT TO WORK WITH MEDIA, STAKEHOLDERS ON CYBERCRIME ACT REVIEW

Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has assured Nigerians that the executive branch is committed to working closely with the National Assembly, the media, and civil society to review the Cybercrime Act in a manner that protects press freedom and ensures accountability.
Speaking after a meeting with U.S. Ambassador Richard Mills in Abuja, Idris reiterated that freedom of expression remains a cornerstone of Nigeria’s democracy. “There is no democracy without a free press,” he said.
Idris encouraged the media to continue practicing responsible journalism and promised that the government would continue promoting media literacy to combat misinformation. Ambassador Mills welcomed the minister’s commitment, describing their discussions as productive and focused on advancing reforms and protecting journalistic freedom.
