Tinubu Signs Bills to Establish Two New Federal Universities

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of two new specialized universities: the Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies in Iragbiji, Osun State, and the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized that these institutions would enhance research, innovation, and human capital development in agriculture, science, and technology. He highlighted their role in producing skilled professionals to boost Nigeria’s economic competitiveness.

This approval follows the president’s recent endorsement of the Federal University of Environment and Technology in Ogoni, Rivers State, and the federal government’s takeover of a forfeited private university in Southern Kaduna, converting it into a federal institution.

According to the National Universities Commission (NUC), Nigeria now has 63 federal universities, 63 state universities, and 149 private universities.
