VETERAN ACTOR QUESTIONS NOLLYWOOD WEALTH CLAIMS, SAYS NO ACTRESS BOUGHT G-WAGON PURELY FROM ACTING

Veteran Nollywood actor Yemi Solade has sparked controversy after stating that no Nigerian actress has ever purchased a luxury G-Wagon from acting income alone, insisting that the film industry does not pay enough to support such lifestyles.

Speaking in an interview, Solade argued that while Nollywood has grown in global recognition, the financial structure of the industry still leaves most actors struggling to make ends meet.

“Let’s be honest. The industry cannot sustain the kind of wealth being flaunted. No actress bought a G-Wagon purely from acting. There must be other sources of income, endorsements, or backing,” he said.

His remarks have reignited debates about gender dynamics in Nollywood, where actresses often appear more financially successful than their male counterparts despite playing comparable roles. Some industry insiders supported Solade’s position, citing poor pay structures, while others countered that brand endorsements, personal businesses, and social media influence could explain the difference.
