Survivors and representatives of communities affected by separatist violence have expressed strong opposition to renewed calls for the release of Nnamdi Kanu. In meetings and public statements, victims said that calls for immediate release would retraumatise communities still recovering from attacks and displacement.
Victims described how years of violence have cost lives, destroyed livelihoods and deepened communal anxieties. They urged authorities and civil society to prioritise truth-seeking, reparations and community reconciliation before any political decision that could be perceived as rewarding impunity.
Several victim-support organisations asked for inclusive consultations that bring survivors into the conversation, stressing that durable peace requires addressing root causes and providing tangible redress and protection for affected households.
