WARRI-ITAKPE TRAIN SERVICE TO REMAIN SUSPENDED DESPITE FIXES, NRC ANNOUNCES
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has extended the suspension of the Warri-Itakpe train service, citing ongoing safety upgrades and the need to improve service reliability. Train operations along the route were initially halted on April 10 due to major technical faults.
Though those faults have now been rectified, NRC’s acting spokesperson Callistus Unyimadu said further work is needed to implement long-term safety protocols and fine-tune operational standards. He emphasized that the downtime would also be used to upgrade equipment, improve customer experience, and put redundancies in place to prevent future breakdowns.
Passengers are urged to remain patient as the corporation finalizes improvements to make the train service “bigger, stronger, and better.” No date has been set for resumption.
