Women’s Group Gives Senate 14-Day Ultimatum to Reinstate Akpoti-Uduaghan

A coalition under the Interfaith Women Alliance for Justice & Women’s Voice for a New Nigeria has given the Senate 14 days to reverse Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.

The group claims her suspension was politically motivated and a violation of her right to free speech. Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended for six months for allegedly speaking without permission and rejecting a new seat in the chamber. Her salary and allowances were also withheld.

Speaking at a press conference in Kaduna, spokesperson Comrade Saratu Shekari condemned the suspension, calling it an attempt to silence her.

“We will occupy the National Assembly if she is not reinstated,” Shekari warned.

Islamic cleric Sheikh Rufai Al-Sadiq also urged the Senate to reverse the decision, criticizing its disregard for a court injunction.
