Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has returned the $20,000 given to him by ex-Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose for travel logistics to attend Fayose’s 65th birthday, following a fresh clash between the two.

Fayose revealed in an interview that although he invited Obasanjo through former aviation minister Osita Chidoka, the gesture was not an apology for their long-standing political feud. Tensions resurfaced at the birthday event when Obasanjo described Fayose as “not the best” of his political mentees—remarks the former governor said he found insulting.

“We took pictures together in good faith. I changed $20,000 and gave it to him. How can you accept somebody’s money and still spite that person?” Fayose said, confirming that Obasanjo later refunded the money after he reached out.

Fayose added that he has also demanded a refund of the ₦10 million he allegedly contributed in 2005 to the Obasanjo Presidential Library on the instruction of the PDP Governors’ Forum.

“You can’t be disparaging people and keeping their money,” Fayose said, insisting he wants his contribution returned.

The latest episode marks yet another setback in the turbulent relationship between the two political figures.
