In a major boost to international connectivity and domestic aviation, Nigeria’s flagship airline, Air Peace, has confirmed the launch of direct flights from Abuja to London Heathrow and Gatwick, beginning October 26, 2025. The move is seen as a strategic expansion of the airline’s global network and a clear step towards repositioning Nigeria as a competitive player in the global aviation sector.
Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, described the development as a “game-changer for Nigerian air travel.” Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos, Onyema said: “We’re not just launching flights, we’re launching convenience. With these routes, Nigerians no longer need to fly to Lagos to connect to the UK. We’re bringing the world closer to Abuja.”
The Abuja–London flights will be operated by Boeing 777 aircraft, with fare categories designed to be affordable for both business and leisure travelers. Starting round-trip economy fares are expected to hover around ₦1 million, a significant cut compared to other international carriers. The airline is also offering through-baggage check-in for connecting passengers from Lagos, Port Harcourt, Kano, and Enugu.
This development is expected to stimulate tourism, foreign investment, and diaspora engagement, particularly for Northern and North-Central Nigeria, where Abuja serves as a major hub. Industry analysts have hailed the move as a timely intervention that may pressure foreign airlines to rethink their pricing structures.
