AKWA IBOM GOVT CELEBRATES TROOPS FIGHTING MILITANCY, VOWS CONTINUED SECURITY SUPPORT

The Akwa Ibom State Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting military personnel in the fight against militancy, sea piracy, and other security threats across the state. This assurance came during a special luncheon organized for frontline soldiers of the Joint Task Force (JTF) at the Mbiokporo Military Cantonment.
Speaking at the event, Governor Umo Eno, represented by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Waterways, Brigadier General Koko Essien (Rtd), commended the troops for their bravery, discipline, and sacrifices. He described the military as the bedrock of the state’s internal stability and pledged that the administration would continue to prioritize security through logistical support, welfare packages, and inter-agency collaboration.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division and Land Component Commander, Operation DELTA SAFE, Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Emekah, praised the initiative, saying it fostered morale, unity, and operational effectiveness among the troops. He noted that the forum allowed soldiers to interact directly with senior military leadership and receive firsthand motivation in a relaxed setting.
Brigadier General Alexander Tawasimi, Commander of 2 Brigade and Sector 4 of the JTF, reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to providing a secure environment for business and social life to thrive. He thanked the dignitaries for honoring the troops and emphasized the need for continued collaboration between civilian authorities and the military in the region.
The event capped a week of military engagements aimed at appreciating service members for their roles in maintaining peace in Nigeria’s volatile Niger Delta region.
