CAN SEEKS NATIONWIDE SUPPORT FOR MEASLES-RUBELLA VACCINATION CAMPAIGN

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on churches, parents, and communities nationwide to rally behind the Federal Government’s ongoing measles-rubella immunization drive.

President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, made the appeal on Monday during the official flag-off of Nigeria’s integrated vaccination campaign in Abuja, urging Nigerians to ensure eligible children are reached. He described the rollout as a transformative step poised to reduce childhood morbidity and mortality from vaccine-preventable diseases.

According to CAN, measles and rubella remain serious public health threats, with consequences such as blindness, hearing loss, and congenital defects. Okoh commended the inclusion of these vaccines in the national immunization schedule and pledged CAN’s full cooperation in mobilization, awareness creation, and dispelling misinformation across its bloc networks.

He also lauded the role of the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in championing the campaign and called on religious and traditional leaders to use their influence to support vaccine uptake. He reaffirmed CAN’s commitment to using faith-based platforms to reinforce public health messages and ensure children receive protection.
