In a demonstration of strategic urban renewal and grassroots economic stimulation, the Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Hon. Uwemedimo E. Udo, has commissioned the newly remodeled Mbiabong Motor Park while launching a ₦100 million grant scheme for entrepreneurs within the council area. The twin events, held on Monday, June 30, 2025, marked a major milestone in his second term in office and drew dignitaries from across the state’s political and business spectrum.
Speaking at the unveiling of the ultra-modern park facility, Hon. Udo attributed the success of the remodeling project to his administration’s resolve to revive key infrastructure that had fallen into disrepair. He explained that the Mbiabong Park, built during the administration of Obong Victor Attah, had suffered years of neglect due to poor drainage and flooding, but was now fully functional and asphalted, with access roads reconstructed to modern specifications.
“The transport system is vital to our economy. It is no longer fashionable to queue up by the roadside for vehicles. That’s why we had to intervene here,” he said, acknowledging the foresight of past administrations while pledging to consolidate on their legacies.
Hon. Udo also launched a ₦100 million empowerment scheme aimed at supporting local businesses. Beneficiaries received cheques ranging from ₦250,000 to ₦2 million, depending on the scale of their enterprise. The initiative targets women, youth, and small-scale traders, and is expected to drive sustainable economic activity in the LGA.
The Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, who represented Governor Umo Eno, praised the Chairman for his performance and called on transporters to make full use of the park, warning against illegal loading activities elsewhere. “Use this place. A lot of money went into it. Don’t load on the streets anymore,” he said.
The event was attended by traditional rulers, members of the State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, the Chairman of Uyo Capital City Development Authority, and top political leaders, all of whom applauded the Chairman’s leadership.
