EDO GOVT ABSORBS 4,000 VOLUNTEER TEACHERS, HIRES 500 NEW STAFF

The Edo State Government has absorbed 4,000 volunteer teachers into the civil service while also recruiting 500 new teachers to strengthen manpower in public schools.

Commissioner for Education, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, made the announcement during the World Teachers’ Day celebration in Benin City. He explained that the teachers had served under the EdoSTAR programme for the past three years and would now receive permanent employment.

Dr. Iyamu revealed that appointment letters would be officially presented on October 15 at a ceremony in Government House. He added that the initiative was part of Governor Okpebholo’s education reforms aimed at addressing teacher shortages and improving learning outcomes.

The Commissioner also highlighted other efforts, including the construction of over 60 schools and training of teachers in digital tools such as robotics and artificial intelligence.

Education stakeholders commended the move, noting that it would boost morale among teachers and improve student performance across Edo State.
