Mr Moses Essien, member of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly representing Ibiono Ibom constituency, has launched a wide‑ranging empowerment programme, providing work tools, equipment and cash support to constituents as part of efforts to enhance economic opportunity and grassroots self‑reliance.
The empowerment event, held at Ikpa Pavilion, saw Essien distribute a variety of starter packs and productive assets, including three vehicles, 22 motorcycles, six welding machines, 20 sewing machines, freezers, generating sets, vulcanising machines, aluminium cutting machines and hairdressing equipment to individuals and small business owners in the constituency.
Speaking at the programme, Essien emphasised his commitment to fulfilling his legislative mandate by facilitating tangible economic gains for residents and boosting local enterprise development. He said the gesture aligns with broader policy goals to support job creation and reduce economic vulnerability among grassroots communities.
Governor Umo Eno, represented at the event by his Senior Special Assistant on Legislative Matters, praised Essien’s initiatives, describing him as a focused and effective legislator whose work contributes to the growth of Akwa Ibom. The governor urged beneficiaries to use the tools and resources provided to establish sustainable livelihoods and improve their families’ wellbeing
Also present, the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom House of Assembly, Mr Udeme Otong, highlighted Essien’s legislative contribution and advocacy for constituents, while other dignitaries reaffirmed support for empowerment efforts that link community needs with policy objectives. These initiatives reflect a growing emphasis among state legislators on direct economic engagement with constituents through assets and training designed to promote entrepreneurship and self‑employment across Akwa Ibom.
