The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has continued its statewide sensitization and consultation tour as part of preparations for the 2026 local government elections. The initiative aims to strengthen stakeholder confidence, assess readiness at the grassroots level, and ensure credible and transparent polls.
During the visits to various local government areas, the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Justice James Oyomire (Rtd), reiterated EDSIEC’s commitment to conducting elections that reflect the will of the people. He stated that the Commission is engaging political parties, traditional institutions, youth organizations, and civil society actors to foster understanding and collaboration ahead of the polls.
Justice Oyomire noted that the tour provides an opportunity to review logistics, security arrangements, and voter education measures, adding that transparency and neutrality remain the Commission’s guiding principles. “We are determined to deliver an electoral process that strengthens democracy at the grassroots. EDSIEC will be impartial, firm, and accountable in its conduct,” he said.
Community leaders and party representatives commended the Commission for its openness and early preparations, which they described as crucial to building public trust and reducing post-election disputes. The exercise is expected to continue across the 18 local government areas in the coming weeks.
