In Enugu State, residents have largely remained calm following the announcement that Nnamdi Kanu was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Federal High Court in Abuja. Despite earlier fears that the verdict might trigger unrest in the southeast, observers say daily life has continued without significant disruption.
According to reports from the ground, groups of young men gathered at local shops to discuss the judgment, while some Kanu sympathizers expressed their disappointment in quieter tones. A small number of residents shook their heads in frustration, but most said they were determined not to let fear derail their sense of community.
A shop owner, Mrs. Ifeoma Obigeri, told correspondents that while people were concerned, she believed peace would hold: “We are worried, yes, but we will not let fear disrupt our livelihoods.” Others, similarly, spoke of resilience and a shared desire to move forward without violence.
