Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has offered a strong note of optimism following the life-sentence handed down to Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Kalu said that despite the court ruling, “all hope” remains for a political solution that could eventually secure Kanu’s freedom.
Kalu argued that with the judicial phase now concluded, the path is open for renewed political engagement. He urged well-meaning Igbo leaders to intensify their appeals to President Bola Tinubu, expressing confidence that the President would be receptive to their message.
In his remarks, the Deputy Speaker called on people of the South-East and indeed all Nigerians to remain calm. He explained that It is now time to explore political solutions that had been hindered because the matter was before the court, stating that now that the court has finished, it is time to intensify requests for the President’s intervention.
