Gov Otti insists he has strategy to secure Nnamdi Kanu’s release

Abia State Governor Alex Otti has doubled down on his claim that he possesses a workable strategy capable of securing the release of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, stressing that a political solution remains the most realistic path to resolving the long-running crisis in the South-East.

Speaking during a media briefing, Otti argued that the continued detention of Kanu has deepened mistrust, radicalized a segment of the youth population, and contributed to socio-economic stagnation in the region. According to him, “no region can progress when its young people are disillusioned and angry,” noting that the South-East needs stability to rebuild investment confidence.

The governor emphasized that while the legal process must run its course, political negotiation is indispensable. He said his administration, in collaboration with Igbo elders, has been quietly exploring high-level engagements meant to soften tensions at the federal level.

Otti refrained from disclosing details of his “strategy,” citing sensitivity and ongoing consultations, but assured residents that any approach will be peaceful, constitutional, and geared toward long-term reconciliation. He urged President Tinubu’s administration to prioritize healing, warning that continued confrontation could escalate regional grievances.
