Governor Umo Eno has urged Akwa Ibom residents to take ownership of state government projects to ensure sustainability.
The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Water Resources and Sanitation, Hon. Ubuo Ubuo, made the call at the commissioning of a solar-powered water project in Ikot Oku Usung, Ukanafun Local Government Area.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to rural development, stating that the project is the first of eleven solar-powered water projects planned across the state.
Local Government Chairman, Hon. Prince Uyo Ukpanah, praised the Governor for bringing much-needed development to rural communities. He assured that the people would protect the project from vandalism.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Barr. Emah Udonsek, explained that the facility features a 2.6-kilowatt solar panel capable of powering the system for 24 hours, a 22,000-liter water tank, and a treatment plant to prevent waterborne diseases.
Traditional rulers and community leaders expressed their gratitude, noting that the project has ended years of suffering due to a lack of clean drinking water.
At the event, PDP Chairman Elder Aniekan Akpan commended the Governor’s leadership and development efforts, while party stakeholders unanimously endorsed Umo Eno for a second term.
