Workers at Kaduna’s tertiary institutions have suspended an industrial action following the state government’s approval of a revised salary structure for academic and non-academic staff. The temporary halt to the strike was welcomed by university management and students, as it paves the way for the resumption of lectures and academic activities that had been disrupted.
Government officials said the new salary framework addresses long-standing wage disparities and is part of broader reforms to improve working conditions and retain skilled personnel within the state’s higher-education system. Representatives of the staff unions commended the governor for the prompt intervention and agreed to reconvene with management to complete implementation steps.
Both sides committed to sustained dialogue to tackle remaining issues such as allowances, promotions and welfare packages. The administration urged all stakeholders to work collaboratively to protect academic calendars and ensure minimal disruption to students’ education.
