The Nigeria Football Federation has paid glowing tribute to Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong following his immediate retirement from international football.

In a statement on Friday, the NFF described the defender who debuted in 2015 and earned 83 caps as a “dedicated, selfless and humble leader” who served Nigeria with passion and professionalism for a decade.

The federation highlighted his impact at major tournaments, including the 2019, 2021 and 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where he won bronze and silver medals and was named the 2023 AFCON Most Valuable Player after scoring three crucial goals. Troost-Ekong also featured at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
