The Papyrus Magazine State Houses of Assembly Awards (PAMSHAA) has officially placed a spotlight on Enugu State, unveiling a line up of legislators who will be receiving the Honour at the 2025 edition of the prestigious event.
The ceremony, slated for Saturday, 30th August 2025 promises to showcase not only legislative performance but also the depth of grassroots representation across the country.
Enugu Recipients bring a blend of eloquence, activism, and community-focused law
making to this year’s shortlist. Hon. Okechukwu Anthony Mbah of Nkanu East is tipped as a double contender — first for his flair in sponsoring private member bills, and again for his vocal presence on the floor of the House. His ability to balance legal precision with fiery debate has set him apart among colleagues.
Rt. Hon. Chima Obieze of Ezeagu Constituency is recognised for motions that have shaped legislative direction in the state, while Hon. Johnson Samuel Ani of Enugu North is penned for Constituency Service Excellence, a nod to his deliberate efforts to close the gap between government and citizens.
Grassroots engagement continues to dominate with Hon. Ezugwu Onyekachi Pius (Nsukka East), who will take home the Best Performing Member in Constituency Outreach, while at the institutional level, the House Standing Committee on Local Government and Inter-Parliamentary Affairs makes the cut as Most Effective/Productive Committee, a recognition of its consistent drive for accountability at the grassroots.
Interestingly, while the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly is not competing in the same categories as his members, he has emerged separately as Masses Most Loved/Favourites House Member.
Organisers of PAMSHAA, led by Hon. Doofan Justin Damsa, note that the Enugu shortlist is proof that the state’s lawmakers are leaving visible footprints both inside the chamber and within their constituencies. “The idea is to inspire legislators to see service beyond the floor of the House,” she explained
