Senate minority leader urges collective action to tackle national security challenges

Senator Abba Moro, Senate Minority Leader, has stressed that addressing Nigeria’s multifaceted security crisis requires a coordinated, national effort. Speaking at a public hearing organized by the Senate’s Ad-Hoc Committee on National Security in Port Harcourt, Moro described the event as a crucial opportunity for collective diagnosis and action.

Moro emphasized that effective security policy must be built on deep understanding of local realities. He called for greater involvement of traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society, security experts, and those directly affected by insecurity in shaping legislative responses.

He further declared that insights from the hearing would inform the Senate’s subsequent policy recommendations, budget decisions, and reform proposals. He explained that whatever they gather here will form the basis of  legislative interventionist measures, budgetary provisions and policy reforms that will revamp the national security landscape.

Also speaking at the event, Governor Siminalayi Fubara (South-South) urged stakeholders in his region to cooperate fully. He argued that security is not solely the government’s job, but a shared responsibility across all levels of society.
