Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris Adamu (rtd) has been named by Bola Ahmed Tinubu to serve as the new Chairman of the Military Pensions Board (MPB), effective 1 December 2025.
Adamu, a former senior officer of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is described in the official release as a seasoned financial expert. His previous posts include Deputy Director of Budget at the Defence Intelligence Agency, Director of Finance at NAF Headquarters, and Managing Director of the NAF’s investment arm, among others.
The presidency said the appointment was part of broader efforts to restore transparency, accountability, and efficiency to the management of pensions for military veterans with Adamu charged to “uphold integrity, demonstrate patriotism,” and use his financial expertise to improve welfare for retirees.
Analysts view this as a signal that the administration is attempting to clean up a chronically mismanaged pension sector, a persistent source of grievance among ex-service personnel about delayed payments, arrears and alleged mis-allocation of funds.
