President Bola Tinubu has embarked on a high-stakes diplomatic mission to Johannesburg, South Africa, and Luanda, Angola, where he will participate in two major international summits. According to his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s first stop is Johannesburg for the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit which will hold from November 22nd to 23rd followed by the 7th African Union–European Union Summit continuing on November 24th to 25th In Luanda.
The G20 summit, themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” will convene leaders from the world’s largest economies alongside representatives from global financial institutions. Key issues on the agenda include inclusive growth, debt financing, disaster risk reduction, climate change, energy transition, food systems, artificial intelligence, and critical minerals. On the sidelines, Tinubu is expected to hold bilateral meetings to advance Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on economic cooperation, security, and regional development.
In Angola, the AU–EU summit will bring together heads of state, young leaders, innovators, and civil society to discuss pressing challenges such as digital transformation, infrastructure investment, climate action, and agribusiness. Tinubu will be accompanied by top members of his cabinet including Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar, Finance Minister Wale Edun, and other key figures signaling Nigeria’s intent to play a central role in shaping Africa’s global partnerships.
