Abia to Crackdown on Fake Drugs, Traders Face Jail Terms

The Abia State Government is set to amend its laws to impose stricter penalties on traders selling expired and counterfeit drugs.

Governor Alex Otti, represented by Chief Press Secretary Ukoha Njoku, issued the warning during a meeting with NAFDAC, the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria (PCN), and market leaders in Aba.

Otti cautioned traders against aiding counterfeiters and vowed to seal properties linked to illegal drug sales. Meanwhile, NAFDAC Zonal Director Martins Iluyomade announced the reopening of shops not involved in the sale of fake medicines but insisted that owners of culpable stores must face consequences.
