The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that passenger train services between Abuja and Kaduna will resume on October 1, 2025. The service was suspended following a derailment that occurred at Asham Station on August 26.
According to NRC officials, the suspension allowed engineers to repair damaged tracks, upgrade safety infrastructure, and conduct comprehensive checks on rolling stock. The corporation said it has now completed the work and certified the line safe for use.
The Abuja–Kaduna corridor is one of the busiest in the country, serving thousands of commuters daily. The resumption of services is expected to ease the burden on road travel, which many passengers had been forced to rely on during the suspension.
Passengers have been advised to book tickets early and comply with new safety regulations. Security agencies are also expected to step up patrols along the route to ensure safe travel.
