AKPABIO TAKES AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN TO COURT OVER SATIRICAL VIDEO, SEEKS PUBLIC APOLOGY

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has filed a legal suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja against suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over a controversial video that he claims violates a standing court order. In the video, which went viral on April 27, Akpoti-Uduaghan sarcastically “apologised” to Akpabio, implying that her only crime was resisting his alleged advances and maintaining her self-respect.
The video was widely interpreted as a biting satire aimed at Akpabio amid an intensifying public feud. But Akpabio’s legal team, led by Senior Advocate Kehinde Ogunwumiju, argued that it amounted to contempt of court, citing a restraining order issued by Justice Binta Nyako on April 4 that barred public commentary on their legal dispute.
Akpabio is asking the court to compel Akpoti-Uduaghan to delete the video from all platforms and publish a formal apology in two national newspapers. He also wants her to swear an affidavit confirming her compliance.
The escalating feud began with a Senate chamber dispute and later morphed into mutual accusations, including a sexual harassment claim by Akpoti-Uduaghan and her eventual suspension by the Senate. The case continues to spark fierce public debate about power, gender, and ethics in Nigerian politics.
