Governor Umo Eno has declared plans to launch a state-wide sports festival aimed at unearthing new athletic talent and building the local sports industry. The announcement came during a private dinner at Government House in honour of Nigerian sports stars William Troost-Ekong and Idara Otu, both with strong Akwa Ibom roots.
The Governor hailed the duo’s achievements and pledged support for broader sports development under the ARISE Agenda, including investments in sports infrastructure like the ARISE Resort’s 9-hole golf course and the planned sports academy. Governor Eno called on Akwa Ibom sports professionals to support youth development initiatives in the state.
Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, praised the administration’s renewed push to revitalize the state’s sporting ecosystem, while Troost-Ekong shared insights from his foundation’s ongoing youth empowerment work. The dinner was attended by government officials and members of the state’s executive council.
