In a landmark decision aimed at improving the welfare of youth corps members, Governor Umo Eno has approved an increase in the state monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in Akwa Ibom from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000, effective August 1, 2025. The announcement came during Day Two of the State Delivery Meeting held at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Uyo.
Governor Eno explained that the increment is intended to complement the ₦77,000 federal allowance, easing the financial burden on corps members and encouraging their contributions to national development. “Over 10,000 corps members are posted to Akwa Ibom annually. We must continue to encourage and support them,” the Governor noted.
The allowance increase follows the governor’s earlier approval for the reconstruction of the NYSC Orientation Camp at Ikot Itie Idung in Nsit Atai Local Government Area. With this latest move, Akwa Ibom consolidates its reputation as one of the most welcoming and secure states for NYSC members, with young graduates actively contributing across education, healthcare, agriculture, and other critical sectors.
