AKWA IBOM EXECUTIVE COUNCIL APPROVES STRATEGIC INFRASTRUCTURE, YOUTH SUPPORT, AND URBAN RENEWAL INITIATIVES

The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council, under the leadership of Governor Umo Eno, convened on Monday July 7th at the Council Chambers of Government House, Uyo, with far-reaching decisions aimed at advancing the state’s socio-economic development under the ARISE Agenda.
Presiding over the session, Governor Eno urged members of the Council to renew their commitment to the collective vision of the administration, emphasizing the importance of synergy and accountability in the implementation of government policies.
During the meeting, the Council ratified the construction of a 2.15-kilometre dual carriage rigid pavement road and approved the rehabilitation of a 0.8-kilometre flexible pavement at the Itam Industrial Park located in Itu Local Government Area. The Governor described the project as a strategic investment in infrastructure that will unlock the potential of the industrial estate and enhance its contribution to the state’s economic growth.
In a related move to strengthen state assets, the Executive Council approved the constitution of a special committee to engage with the management of Rafia City Hotels, also known as Four Points by Sheraton, and other investment portfolios. The committee was tasked with designing a sustainable management framework for the Ibom Hotels and Apartments brand across Nigeria, with a mandate to submit its report within 30 days.
Turning its focus to urban development and security, the Council directed all legitimate allottees of undeveloped plots and abandoned properties within the prestigious Ewet Housing Estate to commence construction within 90 days. Failure to comply, the Council warned, would lead to the revocation of ownership. The Ministry of Housing and the Akwa Ibom Property and Investment Company (APICO) were directed to monitor compliance and implement enforcement where necessary.
The Council also reviewed preparations for the forthcoming Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival and directed the planning committee to fast-track all arrangements for a successful hosting. The Governor reiterated that the festival would serve as a vital platform for discovering and nurturing sporting talent among the youth.
On healthcare, the Council reviewed updates on the long-anticipated International Hospital project and mandated the Ministries of Health and Justice to expedite all outstanding legal and administrative processes to ensure its timely commencement.
Following the conclusion of deliberations, Governor Eno led members of the Executive Council on an unscheduled inspection tour of ongoing tourism-focused infrastructure projects within Uyo’s Central Business District. The delegation visited key sites including the Ibom International Convention Centre, the Ibom Hotels complex, and the emerging ARISE Shopping City.
Governor Eno reaffirmed that the government remains committed to translating policy into visible, people-centered development across sectors.
