The First Lady Designate of Akwa Ibom State, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, has extended her compassion to nursing mothers and newborns in celebration of the state’s 38th anniversary. Lady Obareki, represented by senior female officials and political leaders, distributed cash and gift items to 38 babies delivered across three hospitals in the state on the anniversary day.
At the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, Lady Obareki, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Inibehe Silas Etukudo, expressed gratitude for the safe deliveries and prayed for the good health of the babies and their mothers. A highlight of the visit was the touching story of a woman who gave birth to quadruplets—three girls and a boy—after 20 years of marriage. In appreciation, she named one of the babies after Lady Obareki.
The distribution train continued to St. Luke’s Hospital, Anua, where the team, including wives of state lawmakers and commissioners, shared gifts with nursing mothers. The entourage later visited Immanuel General Hospital, Eket, where more cash and relief packages were given to new mothers. Medical personnel in all three hospitals commended the gesture, describing it as a rare show of compassion. They also prayed for wisdom and strength for the governor and the First Lady Designate as they continue to serve the state
