APC CHIEFTAIN SAYS OPPOSITION PARTIES SHOULD STOP BLAMING TINUBU FOR DEFECTIONS

A prominent All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Osun State, Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has defended President Bola Tinubu against claims that the ruling party is engineering defections from opposition camps, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking in Osogbo, Oyintiloye said the current wave of defections stems from internal party crises, not coercion by the presidency.
According to Oyintiloye, most defectors cite neglect, exclusion, and lack of internal democracy in their former parties. He argued that the APC has attracted them with its “Renewed Hope Agenda” and a demonstrated commitment to national development. He rejected fears of a one-party state, pointing out that Nigeria still has more than 60 registered political parties.
The former lawmaker, however, cautioned the APC to manage incoming defectors wisely to prevent internal strife. He emphasized that defectors should not be allowed to displace loyal party members who had sustained the party over the years, urging a balance between growth and party unity.
