APC laments low turnout in digital Membership drive

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed concern over the poor turnout in its ongoing e-membership registration, urging state chairmen to take full responsibility for mobilising members across all senatorial districts.

At a Train-the-Trainers workshop for state and FCT chairmen in Abuja, APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Argungu, said only a handful of states had made real progress, while many others had barely begun the process.

“Some states have not even started. Only representatives from the senatorial districts have registered so far,” he said. He revealed that Delta State currently leads with 296,508 registered members, while states like Edo and Cross River have only nine each, Nasarawa and the FCT five, Osun eight, Imo three, Enugu none, and Oyo 93.

Argungu stressed that only members with  INEC voter cards should be registered, as they qualify to vote and be voted for in party activities.

He explained that the e-registration initiative aims to clean up the APC’s records and build a credible digital membership database ahead of the 2027 general elections. So far, over five million members have been validated under the new biometric and NIN-linked system, which he said reflects the leadership’s commitment to transparency and organisational integrity.

Former APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, also endorsed the reform, noting that the digital register will guide party planning, candidate verification, and internal decision-making.

With the exercise now in its state-level rollout, the APC leadership urged state chapters to intensify mobilisation to strengthen the party’s structure before the next election cycle.
