Chief of Army Staff, Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, has called on media organizations in Nigeria to play an active role in countering terrorist propaganda and radicalization narratives. During a security briefing, he said that narratives shaped in the media significantly influence public perception, recruitment, and morale.
Gen. Lagbaja urged journalists to collaborate with military and intelligence agencies to verify information before publication and to highlight stories of resilience, community cooperation, and the successes of security operations.
He also appealed to media houses to resist sensationalism that could fuel fear or misinformation. He argued that strategic communication is as critical as kinetic operations in the war against insurgency, and that media must become a force multiplier for national stability.
