BAGO ORDERS RELOCATION OF FLOOD VICTIMS

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has ordered the immediate relocation of internally displaced persons in Mokwa from temporary camps to rented homes, following a devastating flood that killed nearly 200 people and destroyed over 50 houses. The governor made the announcement during an on-site disaster review in the company of his deputy and local traditional leaders.
Bago pledged ₦1 billion toward relief and rebuilding efforts and instructed contractors to begin emergency repairs on the Nigerian Railway Corporation’s damaged bridge in the area. The flood, caused by torrential rain, left more than 3,000 residents homeless.
The North South Power Foundation also donated significant food relief items to the victims, including rice, beans, oil, and seasonings. Receiving the items, the state’s Humanitarian Affairs Commissioner Ahmed Suleiman promised fair and swift distribution to all affected households.
