BAUCHI GOVT APPROVES CREATION OF NEW EMIRATES AND CHIEFDOMS

The Bauchi State Government has approved the creation of multiple new emirates and chiefdoms, aiming to restructure traditional governance and bring leadership closer to communities. The move, endorsed by Governor Bala Mohammed, is expected to strengthen grassroots administration and cultural representation.

State sources say the reform encompasses several divisions long underserved by existing emirate frameworks. The government argues that the traditional leadership system needs modernization to support equitable development and conflict resolution in local areas.

Critics, however, warn that the expansion may strain state resources and dilute historical authority. Some traditional rulers expressed concerns over jurisdictional overlaps and potential friction between old and newly established seats. The government has pledged careful implementation and mechanisms to mitigate disputes.
