The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s proposed increase of the 2025 budget from ₦49.7 trillion to ₦54.2 trillion.
CISLAC Executive Director Auwal Musa Rafisanjani expressed concerns over the legality of the move, citing the lack of a supplementary appropriation bill as mandated by Section 81(4) of the 1999 Constitution.
He warned that bypassing legislative procedures undermines democratic governance and fiscal responsibility. Rafisanjani also noted the alarming rise in debt servicing costs, urging the government to prioritize internally generated revenue over borrowing.
CISLAC called on the National Assembly to exercise its oversight role rigorously, ensuring transparency and accountability in budgetary processes.
