Academic and administrative operations at University of Cross River (UNICROSS) have been halted as staff members belonging to SSANU and NASU joined the nationwide strike in solidarity with their colleagues in federal institutions.
On the protest day, union members marched across the campus, demanding the Federal Government fulfill outstanding welfare and funding agreements, especially those sealed since 2009. They emphasized that non-academic workers should not be left behind.
Officials confirmed that lectures were suspended, offices shut, and administrative services disrupted. Union leaders warned the situation could persist until government shows genuine commitment.
The protest reflects widening frustration with delayed implementation of past agreements between university unions and the government. Students and staff joined in calls for better funding and respect for university autonomy.
