CSOS SLAM SENATOR NATASHA OVER HARASSMENT CLAIMS AGAINST AKPABIO

A coalition of civil society organizations has condemned Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over what they described as “a dangerous campaign of falsehood” against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. In a strongly worded statement, Civil Rights Africa and the League of Democracy Defenders accused Senator Natasha of manufacturing sexual harassment allegations in a bid to discredit Akpabio and destabilize the National Assembly.
Signed by Ambassador Ikemefuna Richard and Alhaji Rabiu Mohammed, the statement alleged that the Senator’s claims were politically motivated and being backed by a former presidential candidate and unnamed northern elites reportedly unhappy with Akpabio’s alliance with President Tinubu.
The CSOs called the senator’s recent suspension from Senate proceedings a “necessary disciplinary action,” citing her alleged misconduct and violation of chamber decorum. They argued that rather than seeking redress through internal Senate protocols, Natasha embarked on a media-driven smear campaign.
They described the sexual harassment and attempted assassination claims as matters for police investigation, not internal Senate panels, warning that any attempt to give her a “soft landing” would further erode public trust.
The coalition warned it would name political figures it believes are sponsoring Natasha if the attacks on Akpabio continue. They insisted that the Senate President was democratically elected and remained widely supported, both within and outside the Senate.
