Controversial media personality and former Cool FM OAP, Daddy Freeze, has opened up about the financial consequences he faced after taking a public stance against popular Nigerian pastors. In an interview with Stephen Akintayo on the Leadership podcast, Daddy Freeze explained how his lucrative career as a master of ceremonies (MC) came to an abrupt halt after he began criticizing exploitative practices by some clergy.
Freeze revealed that at his peak, he charged ₦1.5 million per event—at a time when the dollar stood at ₦150—and could earn as much as $10,000 bi-monthly, which translated to an annual income of over $60,000 from MC gigs alone. However, the outspoken broadcaster said things drastically changed when he became a vocal critic of the church.
“I lost 100% of my business,” he said. “Since 2019 till now, I haven’t gotten an MC job. I had one, but after the event flyer went viral, people said they wouldn’t attend. The organizer called to cancel, even though he’d already paid me upfront. He told me to keep the money, but I was removed.” Daddy Freeze’s testimony underscores the polarizing nature of religious criticism in Nigeria, where faith leaders hold significant sway over public opinion and societal dynamics.
Despite the loss, he remains resolute in his advocacy for financial transparency and doctrinal accountability within Nigerian churches, even if it comes at personal cost.
